Approach from Mendoza (Ruta 7)

This is the international highway to Chile — paved but often in poor condition from heavy truck traffic. The drive climbs steadily from the Mendoza wine country (750m) through the pre-Andean foothills via Potrerillos and Uspallata, entering the high Andes proper at Penitentes. Andesmar buses run several departures daily in season.

This is not a trekking route — it is the Ruta Nacional 7 highway corridor from Mendoza to the Chilean border (~180 km, heavy truck traffic, winter snow closures), managed by road authorities, not the park. Every official Aconcagua trek starts at the Horcones or Punta de Vacas park gates. Treat this line as transport logistics; the drive itself is spectacular, but it has no trail classification to verify.
