Approach from Mendoza (Ruta 7)

This is the international highway to Chile — paved but often in poor condition from heavy truck traffic. The drive climbs steadily from the Mendoza wine country (750m) through the pre-Andean foothills via Potrerillos and Uspallata, entering the high Andes proper at Penitentes. Andesmar buses run several departures daily in season.
