Posets Normal Route
✓ Verified against the agency · AEMETThe standard ascent of Posets, the Pyrenees' second-highest summit, from the Eriste valley. Espigantosa bridge (~1,500m) to Refugio Ángel Orús (2,150m), then a long summit day via the Diente de Llardana area to the top. Unlike Aneto, the standard summer route doesn't require crossing an active glacier, though snow and scrambling sections remain.
Safety classification
July to September in a normal year, and only once the Canal Fonda is essentially snow-free unless you carry and can use ice axe and crampons — the ficha warns of 'nieve o hielo hasta bien entrado el verano', and the FAM refuge's live route board still showed snow on the Ruta Real on 22/08/2026. Check conditions with Refugio Ángel Orús before going. Not safe: early season, after fresh snow, in fog (cairn-only navigation), or in storms.
- ▲Snow/ice in the Canal Fonda until well into summer — snow reported on the route as late as 22 Aug 2026
- ▲Steep, stepped rocky terrain with no clear trail above the turnoff (agency MIDE: displacement 3, effort 4 — 6-10 h of effective walking)
- ▲No waymarks above the GR 11.2 turnoff: cairn navigation on rocky terrain, serious in fog
- ▲Narrow, exposed summit ridge at 3,369 m
- ▲Altitude and afternoon storms; 1,240 m gain from the refuge
Second-highest Pyrenean summit, via the Ruta Real (Canal Fonda / Collado del Diente) from the FAM refuge Ángel Orús. 'Maintained' reflects the FAM refuge publishing live route conditions — the upper route itself is unmarked cairned rock. Equipment is graded 'glacier' conservatively: there is no glacier crossing and rope is not normally needed, but ice axe and crampons are required whenever snow remains, which this year meant late August. Without alpine experience, take a guide.
