Quandary Peak East Ridge
Not yet safety-verifiedThe standard east-ridge route on the highest peak of the Tenmile Range, and Colorado's most-climbed 14er — the classic first fourteener. From the trailhead at 3,307m off Blue Lakes Road the trail climbs through spruce forest to treeline (~3,630m), then follows the broad east ridge in one long, honest grind: a flatter shoulder near 4,010m (the false summit that fools everyone), then 340m of steep rock-strewn ridge to the 4,350m summit, with the resident mountain-goat herd usually posing along the way. No scrambling, but full alpine exposure to weather — the same be-off-by-noon lightning rule applies. Parking is the crux: summer trailhead reservations or the free Breckenridge shuttle.
