In 1851 a few townspeople from Krasnoyarsk climbed a rock outside the city, and a whole way of living grew out of it. They built log cabins up on the pillars, made their own rules, and in 1897 painted the word Socialism across the base of the first one. The Tsar's police saw sedition. The Soviets agreed.
