The Pyrenees

The Pyrenees form the entire border between France and Spain, topping out at Aneto, 3,404 metres. The GR11 crosses the Spanish side from sea to sea. In 1789 a French naturalist published a book about these mountains that was half geology and half love letter, and by 1898 the habit had a name of its own — pyrénéisme, defined as the ability to climb, to write, and to feel.
