Blue - Central Pillars
✓ Verified against the agency · —The classic. From the Laletino entrance up the wide forest road, then the marked blue loop through the Central Pillars group - Slonik, the First Pillar, Ded, Perya. Easy underfoot (it is a road), moderate by total ascent. Walking to the bases is non-technical; getting on top of any pillar is rope-free scrambling.
Safety classification
Open year-round, daylight hours only. Safest late July to September, after tick season and before winter ice. Do NOT go late March to early July without full tick protection (peak tick-borne encephalitis season), and do not go when the park announces closures for high fire danger, elevated bear activity, or deadfall risk - it publishes these bulletins on kras-stolby.ru. Winter visits mean ice on the Laletinsky approach and around the rocks.
- ▲Tick-borne encephalitis and borreliosis, late March to early July - the park does not treat the territory with pesticides
- ▲Venomous snakes (common viper, pit viper) in warm months
- ▲Bears in the recreational zone - the park closes routes during high bear activity
- ▲Loose granite scree and rockfall at the base of the pillars; slipping on wet tree roots
- ▲Ice on trails and rock bases in winter
- ▲Unroped scrambling on the pillars themselves - the traditional stolbist 'khody' are climbing lines, not part of the route, and falls from the rocks are the killer here
- ▲Falling dead trees - the park closes access when deadfall risk is high
The 'blue route' name is the park's legacy colored-marking scheme and no longer appears on the official site. The Central Pillars circuit is today the approved route 'Природа – великий скульптор' (2.5 km loop at ~680 m), reached on foot via the approved Laletinsky route - about 14-15 km round trip with roughly 400 m of gain from the central entrance, a full half-day. Stay on the marked trail: the rules require it, and the scramble lines up the pillars are unroped climbing where the park's fatal accidents happen. Check the park's fire/bear/deadfall bulletins before going; carry poles or microspikes outside high summer.
