Tramway du Mont-Blanc
Not yet safety-verifiedFrance's highest rack railway, opened to the Nid d'Aigle in 1913 — the original plan was to continue to the Aiguille du Goûter before WWI killed it. Today it is day one of the Goûter route: Saint-Gervais-Le Fayet (580 m) up through Col de Voza (1,653 m), Bellevue (1,794 m) and Mont Lachat (~2,077 m) to the Nid d'Aigle terminus at 2,372 m. Summit-bound climbers with refuge bookings get priority on early departures in season; it is also a spectacular out-and-back ride for non-climbers.
