Choquequirao Approach
Not yet safety-verifiedThe approach to the "other Machu Picchu." A demanding trek from Cachora through the Apurimac canyon — 1,500m descent to the river, then 1,500m climb to the ruins. Choquequirao is three times the size of Machu Picchu, 30-40% excavated, and receives fewer than 30 visitors per day. No permits, no circuits, no time slots. The cable car that would transform this into a day trip is still in pre-construction.
