The route traverses the Karwendel Nature Park — one of the Alps' densest golden eagle habitats — before descending via the Nordkette directly into Innsbruck. Stage 12 is the only long-distance trail stage in the Alps that ends in a capital city. 12 of 33 total Adlerweg stages are classified as black (difficult).
