Safety classification
Boats on Lake Brienz run 3 April–6 December 2026 (frequent sailings 23 May–11 October; sparse low-season timetable outside that). The Giessbach funicular runs April–October, then mid-October–early December weekends only. Mid-December–March there is no boat service and the falls paths can be icy — do not plan this itinerary in winter. Falls are most powerful (and paths wettest) during snowmelt and after heavy rain.
- ▲Slippery spray-wet path and stairs on the falls circuit, especially the section behind the waterfall — good shoes required per the operator
- ▲Unfenced drop-offs near falls viewpoints
- ▲High water during snowmelt and after rain increases spray and slickness on the circuit
Boat from Interlaken Ost to Giessbach (~70 min), historic 1879 funicular to the hotel, 20-minute falls circuit. The 14-step cascade path is short and family-friendly in season. Book the boat/parking ahead in high summer.
