Crevasse death on the Glacier du Tour, Mont Blanc massif
A Russian woman in her 60s, climbing solo, fell through a snow bridge and was found dead in a crevasse on the Glacier du Tour. The PGHM (Chamonix high-mountain gendarmerie) located her via her phone signal after the Refuge Albert 1er wardens raised the alarm — a pointed reminder on solo glacier travel in a warm season.

Karakoram’s season theme: heat, rockfall, and tight windows
Across the Karakoram, unusually warm temperatures have softened snow and raised rockfall and instability on lower routes, forcing pre-dawn movement and careful summit-window timing. First summits of the summer landed on Nanga Parbat; K2's main window held late-July into early August.

Speed-climbing star Jake Whisenant dies in a fall, 30
Jake Whisenant — who held the Lurking Fear (El Capitan) speed record with Brant Hysell — died Aug 3 in a climbing fall in Tulare County, California. The sheriff's office lists the cause as “accident”; no further detail has been released.

Nirmal “Nims” Purja killed in Broad Peak avalanche
Nirmal Purja — the climber who summited all fourteen 8,000m peaks in six months — died on July 30–31 when an avalanche swept ten climbers between Camp 2 and Camp 3 on Pakistan's 8,051m Broad Peak. All ten were killed. Military helicopters had airlifted eight bodies, including Purja's, to Skardu by Aug 7; some climbers were still missing.

Andrzej Bargiel skis Nanga Parbat, summit to base, no oxygen
Polish ski-mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel skied Pakistan's 8,126m Nanga Parbat from the summit to base camp without supplemental oxygen on June 30 — a genuine first on an 8,000er of that character.
