Warning: Semeru
Mount Semeru (3,676m) reopened 24 April 2026 but access is limited to Ranu Kumbolo only. The summit is prohibited. Alert Level III. 2,815 eruptions recorded in 2025. Any guide marketing a summit trek is publishing dangerously outdated information.
Rinjani: don't forget
- Book online via e-Rinjani minimum 2 days in advance. 400/day quota. No gate booking.
- Premium Insurance (IDR 290,000) mandatory since March 2026. Covers helicopter evacuation.
- Withdraw cash in Mataram before heading up. No ATMs in Senaru/Sembalun.
- Closed season November-March (rain). June-September is best.
