Mandatory acclimatization

Do not trek on arrival day in Leh (3,500m). Spend at least 1-2 days acclimatizing. Walk slowly, drink water, avoid alcohol. Diamox (acetazolamide) is available at Leh pharmacies without prescription. If you get a severe headache, descend immediately.

Satellite phones

Satellite phones are illegal in India. Carrying or using a sat phone without a license from the Department of Telecommunications is a criminal offense. This includes Ladakh. Some premium trek operators carry licensed sat phones for emergencies — confirm with your operator.
