Eiger Trail
✓ Verified against the agency · SLF6 km directly beneath the Eiger North Face. From Eigergletscher station (2,320m) to Alpiglen (1,616m), the trail descends 700m through scree fields and alpine meadows within 400m horizontal of the base of the 1,800m Nordwand. T2 mountain hiking. Access via Eiger Express gondola from Grindelwald Terminal (15 min).
Safety classification
Mid-June to October (Jungfrau Region lists Jun-Oct as the season). Not safe outside that window: the trail is snow-covered and unmarked in winter, and snow lies late below the north face, so check Jungfrau Railways trail status before any June or late-October trip.
- ▲Steep alpine meadows and scree slopes at the foot of the Eiger north face (agency route description)
- ▲Sustained ~780 m descent from 2346 m to Alpiglen (1616 m)
- ▲Late-lying snow early in the season; the trail is closed and unsignposted when snow-covered
Signposted white-red-white mountain trail from Eigergletscher station to Alpiglen, 6.1 km, 2-3 h, graded moderate by the region (track No. 36). Reachable only by rail/gondola. Do not go before the trail is reported open — it sits in the shade of the north face and holds snow well into early summer. Trekking poles help on the long descent (the agency lists them as 'if necessary').
