Late June to mid-October (Jungfrau Region lists Jun-Oct). The route only works while the Schynige Platte cog railway and First gondola run (summer season); November-May it is snowbound and unmarked, and old snowfields persist on the high sections near the Faulhorn into early July.
- ▲16 km at 1900-2681 m with no road access or bailout between the Schynige Platte and First railheads
- ▲Rapid high-alpine weather changes; the only shelters en route are Berghaus Maenndlenen and the Faulhorn mountain hotel (agency roadbook)
- ▲Early-season snowfields on the high sections — the region's season only opens in June
- ▲Karst and rocky ridge terrain on the Oberberg-Loucherhorn section (agency route description)
The classic Faulhornweg: Schynige Platte - Maenndlenen - Faulhorn - Bachalpsee - First, the Jungfrau Region's official numbered track No. 62 (16 km, 835 m ascent, 6 h, graded moderate). Jungfrau Railways bills it a 'high altitude hike' at 1967-2681 m. Long high day for fit hikers; carry poles and check snow conditions in June/early July and October. Both endpoints depend on lift operating hours — start early to make the last First gondola.
