Austrian Tyrol
Tyrol is the Austrian Alps at their most walkable: valley villages under three-thousand-metre peaks, linked by hut-to-hut routes like the Stubai Höhenweg and the Eagle Walk. Zuckerhütl, highest of the Stubai Alps, reaches 3,507 metres. In September 1991 two hikers found a body in the ice at 3,210 metres and assumed it was recent. He had died more than five thousand years ago.
