Bernese Oberland
Nine climbers died on the north face of the Eiger before anyone reached the top of it — eighteen hundred metres of loose limestone, black ice and falling rock. It was finally climbed on 24 July 1938. You can sit in the valley with a coffee and see the entire thing.
